Goals/mission:

  • Trampoline Hall founder Sheila Heti has said: “Writing is a solitary thing that barely involves other people.” She decided on a lecture series so as to involve other people “in a way that wasn’t strictly collaborative,” adding: “You can’t change the world, but you can change Toronto.”
  • According to Heti, Trampoline Hall exists to give a platform to people who are “doing interesting things, but who aren’t local celebrities or media darlings and don’t have a venue to tell the world what they’re passionate about.”
  • Aims to build a shared, collective knowledge between lecturer and audience.

Notable past and current activities:

  • Currently, Trampoline Hall is a monthly lecture series hosted by Misha Glouberman. Every first Monday of the month, from 8-11 pm, three lecturers speak on subjects about which they are not experts, and they answer audience questions.
  • Notable past lectures (available on their podcast):
    • “Burritos” by Monica Heisey
    • “Dads” by Emily Keeler
  • Past location: Sneaky Dee’s; present location: The Garrison
  • In 2002, Trampoline Hall
    • went on a US Tour through ten cities, including Buffalo, Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, and Chicago.
    • held a Trampoline Hall What Is Beauty? Pageant, in which seven women and four men competed through costume change and lectures for the title of Miss Trampoline Hall.
  • In 2017, Trampoline Hall started a podcast.
