Goals/mission:
Servicing and enriching Ontario-based art communities and organizations. Provision of grants and support of professional Ontario artists and organizations through the various art disciplines such as, but not limited to, literature, music, theatre, and Francophone arts.
Current goal: “Reset. Renew. Revitalize.” The object is to further erase race-based barriers that limit Ontario artists and their art production, embracing the differences and the multiculturalism that influence art production in Ontario. There is a focus on BIPOC communities: particularly, Black and Indigenous communities.
Notable activities:
- Provision of grants.
- Indigenous Arts Projects for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.
- Support of The Writers’ Union of Canada: funding school visits by authors.
- Support of the League of Canadian Poets.
Ways to get involved:
- Apply for grants as an artist or organization.
- Participate or volunteer in arts organizations/events/workshops/education in your community.
- Connect with the local arts community: approach your local arts council, cultural centres, regional art galleries, museums, or studios.
- Advocate for arts education and the implementation of art in education.
- Vote for and support representatives who are for governmental funding of the arts.
